Peruvian airline inaugurates Lima-Havana route

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- The LAN Peru national airline inaugurated on
Thursday a route that will link Lima and Havana, Cuba.

Officials of the tourism ministry said that opening the route will be an
A319 aircraft with a capacity of 135 passengers, among them top level
executives, and that it will fly three times a week. The new route will
accomodate connections from dissimilar destinations -- Latin America and
the Caribbean, and particularly Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile.

LAN Peru is one of the subsidiaries of a larger company, LAN Chile,
founded in 1929, and operates a group of companies in those nations. It
became LAN Airlines in 2005, with international medium and long range
destinations.

Two years ago, it merged with the Brazilian TAM Linhas Aereas, which
created LATAM Airlines, the largest aero-commercial consortium in Latin
America and one of the largest in the world. The two companies, however,
will maintain operations separately.
