Honduran Police Arrest 11 Undocumented Cubans

Honduran Police Arrest 11 Undocumented Cubans

TEGUCIGALPA – Honduran authorities arrested on Monday 11 Cubans planning
to travel to the United States illegally, deputy police commissioner
Julio Matute said.

The group was arrested while riding on a bus headed for Ocotepeque
province on the Guatemalan border, to continue from that country their
journey to the United States, Matute said.

The Cubans were handed over to migration authorities to determine their
status in the Central American country and whether to allow them to
continue traveling, he said.

Honduras has become a key transit country for undocumented Cuban
emigrants headed for the United States, local officials say.

Most of the roughly 600 U.S.-bound Cubans intercepted in Honduras so far
this year were ultimately allowed to continue their journey.
